Today is the 99th birthday of the legendary football referee Tofig Bahramov.

Idman.biz reports that the world-famous referee was born on January 29, 1925.

Bahramov, who received the general union since 1958 and the international degree since 1965, became legendary with his famous decision in the final game of the 1966 WC-1966 between England and the AFR. He arbitrated the semi-final matches of the 1970 World Cup and the 1967/68 season of the

Champions League. In 1972, our compatriot was assigned to the final of the UEFA Cup and the Intercontinental Cup.

The Republic Stadium, which is the number one sports facility in the history of Azerbaijan, is also named after him. Bahramov is the only referee in the world who has a stadium named after him. A documentary film was made about Bahramov. He went down in football history as the only referee who received the Golden Whistle.

He died on March 26, 1993. In 2021, AFFA established the "Tofig Bahramov Award" for judges.
