After Estonia's 3-1 victory over Azerbaijan in Tallinn, the head coach of the Azerbaijani national team, Fernando Santos, spoke about the match.
According to Idman.biz, the Portuguese coach answered questions from Azerbaijani journalists who had been sent to Estonia by the joint efforts of AFFA and Azərlotereya:
"We started the game well, played compact for the first 35 minutes. They didn’t have any chances. But after we conceded the goal, things changed. During the break, I told the team that we needed to play like we did in the first 35 minutes. The opponent played smart and didn’t give us the space to play our game. We had chances but couldn’t capitalize on them. The opposing team didn’t leave us any room on the pitch. We started with a 3-4-3 formation and played well for the first 35 minutes. They scored on a counter-attack. We had 4-5 real chances.
Our main issue is in defense. We’ve conceded 8 goals in 3 games. We need to keep working and address these problems. We’re not planning to change our tactics. We want to play attacking football. We’re playing with four players in midfield. Badavi Huseynov was our captain, but he doesn’t speak Azerbaijani well, so we chose Abbas Huseynov as captain."
