"Unfortunately, we lost," said Qarabag head coach, Gurban Gurbanov, following their 0-3 defeat to Ajax in the UEFA Europa League Group Stage.
As reported by Idman.biz, Gurbanov analyzed the game: "We prepared well for the game, and as you saw, we started the match very well. The unfortunate part was the red cards. When player numbers decrease in upcoming matches, it becomes even harder. To grow, we must go through certain stages. I thank the fans. Hopefully, if the team continues with this kind of courage, we can achieve better results. I also emphasize that hosting a team like Ajax in Baku is a significant opportunity for us."
- Are you considering any action regarding Elvin Jafarquliyev's red card?
- We’ll definitely have a conversation. Football is a competitive sport, and if they give red cards in such situations, then we might as well not play. Some referee decisions puzzle me. If there's no penalty for pulling Juninho down with two hands in the second half, why give Romao a red card for a foul in the center? Maybe we don’t fully understand the rules. Regarding Elvin’s situation, if the team is already short-handed and behind, and he receives a second yellow, it raises questions. It would be nice if they came to our country with a more positive outlook. I've never blamed referees. Just because we’re Qarabag playing against a big club doesn’t mean we should be treated this way.
- Will you consider filing a complaint with UEFA about the decisions?
- Probably not. We have in the past, but it had no effect. It’s better not to discuss refereeing.
- Two players are now suspended. What’s your plan for the match against Bodo/Glimt?
- We’ll do what’s necessary. They have 7 points and remain unbeaten, especially at home where they’re strong. But we have other players, and we’ll try to achieve a good result with the team we have.
- Qarabag's performance in the Premier League and European competitions differs noticeably. What can the team do to change that?
- As you know, the players in these teams are more skilled than us. Yes, we’re motivated, but European experience always outweighs ours. While we gain experience each year, they have the psychological edge. Our only goal is to improve our work further."
- There are calls for your resignation on social media. What do you think?
- I have no comment for them. I stay away from social media for these reasons. I support every successful Azerbaijani in any field. I just want to say thank you to them, and I’d like to ask you not to bring me such information.
