Afran Ismayilov, a former player of the Azerbaijan national team, told Idman.biz this while evaluating the Azerbaijan-Sweden match held in Baku during the EURO-2024 qualifying.
The 34-year-old veteran midfielder said that the team played good football against a strong opponent: "It's a pity that we couldn't even start the cycle. But the results towards the end are heartening. I congratulate all our people on the occasion of the victory."
He emphasized that a difficult test awaits the Azerbaijani national team in the next game: "Belgium is one of the best teams in the world. Of course, the opponent will show his strength and come out to win. But if our players perform the tasks correctly, we can win."
Before the meeting with Sweden, he also commented on the awarding of the jersey of the Azerbaijan national team, which was symbolically framed in gold for their services in the country's football, and a special gift: "We thank the Ministry of Youth and Sports, as well as AFFA, for the attention shown to veteran football players. They did not forget us. It would be better if it became traditional. Because our veteran players get additional incentives from this."
