"Sumgait" basketball player Jay Murrell gave an interview to the press service of the club.
Idman.biz reports that the American spoke about the current situation of "Sumgait", Azerbaijan and his future career.
- How did you start playing basketball?
- I was born in 1997 in Long Beach, California. My father brought me to this game. However, he played American football. He simply explained that skill in basketball comes to the fore in comparison to the sport he plays. In American football, physical fitness is the main condition.
- Which of clubs did you play in before coming to Azerbaijan?
- Until I came to Azerbaijan, I played only in university teams. First, I spoke at the Kansas "Newshow", then at the University of Kentucky.
- Then Azerbaijan is the first steps in your professional career, shall we say?
- Yes, the Azerbaijan championship is the first championship in which I entered my professional life. I value it a lot. In general, I love the city of Baku and the "Sumgait" team. I am satisfied with everything here. They treat me very well. The level of the Azerbaijan championship is also high. There is no mention of the atmosphere within the team. Actually, I have also happy personality. Being warm and cheerful on the field has a positive effect on the performance of the team. I am developing myself with such a character.
- What other impressions do you have about Azerbaijan?
- Due to the pace of life, Baku is more mobile. Life is boiling here. For example, I did not see this in the regions we visited. But the nature outside of Baku is very beautiful. You can't help but be struck by this beauty. Besides, I also love the sea. In this sense, you cannot live in Baku and not enjoy the sea. My teammates introduced me to the city. I have seen the sights of the city.
- How do you evaluate the performance of "Sumgait" in the current season?
- We have lost 6 times in 8 rounds, which is not a good result. We could have played better than that. In some games, we just missed out on victories. Nevertheless, we have a high chance of advancing to the playoffs. We have no doubt that we will play there. We just don't know from which place we will go to the playoffs. We have to play more aggressively to get what we want. The main problem we have is that we start the game with a very high tempo, but then it slows down. This is the main reason for our defeats.
- What are your future goals?
- Although I am far from my homeland, I feel the support of my relatives and friends. Those who know me in America follow my performances in the Azerbaijan championship and are interested in my statistics. As for my future career, I see myself in the highest leagues and I am ready for any challenge. Like every basketball player, I want to play in the NBA. If I get such an opportunity, I will not miss it.
