Kurtinaitis: "Not every Lithuanian team can afford the amount Sabah spends on the internationals"

"I'm coming back after 18 years"

Idman.biz reports that this was said by Rimas Kurtinaitis, the new head coach of Sabah.

The legend of Lithuanian basketball shared his thoughts on his new appointment in his statement in his homeland: "I have been there. I know how everything is, how it starts from scratch. We founded the league, established a national team, won the Islamic Solidarity Games with the national team. A few years later, we defeated Iran in the semi-finals, which played in the Olympic Games. To be honest, I don't know if the Gala club, which I led at that time, is still alive or not."

He said that the situation in Azerbaijani basketball has changed. Noting that a new, stronger league has been created, Kurtinaitis emphasized that the basketball team, created together with the Sabah football club, became the champion in the first season. The expert said that not every team in Lithuania is able to pay the amount spent by the new team on the international players.

It should be noted that Kurtinaitis was the head coach of the Gala club and the Azerbaijan national team in 2002-2006.
