Sydney Wilson, 31, was shot and killed by Fairfax County officer Peter Liu during a welfare check at her apartment in Reston, Virginia, on September 16.

Idman.biz reports that the Police bodycam footage, released this week, shows the situation rapidly escalating after Wilson initially opened and slammed her door when officers arrived.

When she re-emerged moments later in a bathrobe, she suddenly pulled out a kitchen knife and attacked the officer, slashing him in the face. Despite Officer Liu’s repeated commands for her to “back up,” Wilson, standing 6 feet tall, advanced with the knife raised above her head. The officer, cornered in a dead-end hallway, fired his weapon, hitting Wilson three times. She was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital, while Officer Liu was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Wilson, a Georgetown University graduate and leasing manager in D.C., had recently been certified in mental health first aid, advocating for awareness. Her death has raised questions about mental health crises and law enforcement responses. The officer remains on restricted duty status, pending the outcome of an investigation.
