Idman.biz reports that Aleksey Kitayev, Sumqayıt's new transfer, shared his thoughts on the team's spirit and potential.
The experienced player evaluated the team's readiness, saying: “The preparation game we played against Nakhchivan before the new season showed that we are a good team. We put up a worthy fight against a strong opponent. Of course, we wanted to win the game a few days ago, but there are reasons for the defeat. We are still a newly-formed team and haven’t played together much. We need time to adjust. Individually, the team members are very strong.”
Kitayev is confident that Sumgayit will perform successfully in the new season: “Our main goal is, of course, to qualify for the playoffs. If things go well, we can even make it to the top four teams in the championship. To achieve this, we need to improve with each game. We must show what we are capable of in our first match against the Ordu BC. I invite all Sumgayit basketball fans to come to the Sumgayit Olympic Sports Complex to watch our game. I hope that with their support, Sumgayit will win this game.”
Sumgayit will face Ordu in the first round, with the game scheduled for October 20.
