"The score difference is large, but this is actually positive," says Vugar Azimov, Secretary General of the Azerbaijan Basketball Federation, to Idman.biz.
Commenting on the women's national basketball team’s 47-108 loss to Lithuania in the EuroBasket 2025 qualifiers, Azimov explained that, despite the defeat, participating in such tournaments is essential. "Currently, half of the team consists of 16-17-year-old girls. We have to participate in these tournaments for them to gain experience. Without such matches, they can't develop. Our main goal is to increase our players' skill levels through these competitions. Right now, the score isn’t our primary concern. Naturally, there's a quality gap with stronger teams, but we believe our players will improve and achieve better results in the future."
Azerbaijan has lost all four qualifying matches so far.
