Azerbaijan national team, which took part in the 1st World Olympic Qualifying Tournament held in Busto Arsizio, Italy, has returned home.
Idman.biz reports that the delegation was welcomed at the Heydar Aliyev International Airport by the staff of the Boxing Federation, employees of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, representatives of the sports community, boxers and family members of athletes.
Samir Huseynov, adviser to the president of the Azerbaijan Boxing Federation, said that the performance of our team in the competition should be highly appreciated: "Winning a license among 113 countries is laudable. Let's take into account that many countries, including Armenia and Georgia, could not get a license. By winning 3 licenses among men so far, we share 7-11 places among the world countries. We are sure that we will be able to succeed in the other 4 weights in the next qualification tournament to be held in Thailand. At the same time, we have prepared an additional program for the national team of female boxers. We hope that they will also get a license. We are sure that our male boxers will go to Paris-2024 with maximum qualifications."
He also emphasized that there have been serious changes in the activity of the federation in recent years, as a result of the reforms, quite serious achievements have been achieved in the European and world championships, and in 2022, this number has increased to 77 medals, and in 1 year, this number has increased to 179: "This shows that our policy it is true. The results will be even better in Paris-2024."
Nariman Abdullayev, the head coach of the national team of male boxers, said that the competition was very intense and the world's strongest participated in the tournament: "Our boxers showed themselves in a good way. Nijat Huseynov had 4 fights and spoke his word in front of boxers with titles. We think that he will win a medal at the Olympics. We have another license competition coming up. We promise that we will qualify there as well."
Nijat Huseynov, who won a license for the Paris-2024 Summer Olympic Games in Italy, said that they had prepared well and achieved success as a result. According to him, although every match was difficult, he succeeded thanks to confident tactics. Huseynov said that he will prepare for the Games with all his strength to raise the flag of Azerbaijan high in Paris 2024.
His personal trainer Vugar Aghalarov said he believes his student will succeed from the beginning. He said that this is a victory for all of us, all of Azerbaijan: "Nijat was one of the youngest boxers in the 51 kg weight class, and I believe that his greater successes lie ahead."
It should be noted that the II World Olympic Qualifying Tournament will be held in Thailand from May 23 to June 3.
