The EUBC U23 Boxing Championship has kicked off in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria.
According to Idman.biz, on the first day of the competition, which features 327 athletes from 35 countries, two members of the Azerbaijan national team secured victories.
Ruslan Gadirov (60 kg) faced Georgios Georgantzas (Greece) in the 1/16 finals. Dominating all three rounds, Azerbaijan's boxer won with a score of 5:0 (30:26, 30:26, 30:26, 29:27, 30:26). He will compete against Stefan Camovic (Serbia) in the 1/8 finals.
Ilgar Salahov continued Gadirov’s success. Competing in the 67 kg category, the national team member defeated Goran Miocic (Croatia) with a score of 5:0 (29:28, 30:27, 30:27, 29:28, 29:28). Salahov will face Safi Abo Shaaban (Israel) in the 1/8 finals.
Both boxers will have their second matches on October 13.
Azerbaijan sent 13 boxers to the championship.
