The quarterfinal matches of the U23 European Boxing Championship are ongoing in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria.
Idman.biz reports that three Azerbaijani athletes have secured victories on their way to the semifinals.
Tural Sariyev (48 kg) advanced to the semifinals after defeating Lasha Kereselidze (Georgia) with a dominant score of 5:0 (30:26, 30:26, 30:26, 30:26, 30:26). He will face Turkiye's Samet Oruc Salih in the next round.
Nicat Huseynov (51 kg) also booked his spot in the semifinals with a 5:0 win (29:28, 29:28, 30:27, 29:28, 29:28) over Rafael Serrano (Spain). Huseynov will now take on Serbia’s Omer Ametović.
Murad Allahverdiyev (80 kg) continued the team's success by eliminating Matviy Rajban (Ukraine) in a close 3:2 bout (30:27, 30:27, 28:29, 30:27, 28:29). Allahverdiyev’s next opponent will be Ahmed Mavrić from Serbia.
By reaching the semifinals, all three Azerbaijani boxers have secured at least bronze medals. The semifinal bouts will take place on October 17.
A day earlier, another member of the Azerbaijani team, Marjona Savrieva (50 kg), also won her quarterfinal match.
