“I had four fights at the European Championship.”
Azerbaijani boxer and European Championship silver medalist Nijat Huseynov shared these thoughts in an interview with Idman.biz at the welcoming ceremony for the successful national team at Heydar Aliyev International Airport.
“In the 1/8 final, I defeated an English opponent, and in the quarterfinal, I beat a Spanish boxer who competed alongside me at the Olympic Games. In the semifinal, I overcame a Serbian boxer. In the final, I faced an Armenian boxer, whom I had already beaten twice. All of my matches went smoothly. However, as everyone clearly saw in the final, the referees favored the Armenian side and awarded him the win. As a result, I finished the championship in second place. As for the Azerbaijani Championship, I don’t see anyone as a rival and don't think much about it.”
Huseynov, competing in the 51 kg weight category, only lost in the decisive match, securing the silver medal.
