The 1/8 finals of the IBA World Youth Boxing Championship continue in Budva, Montenegro, where three more athletes from Azerbaijan have secured victories to advance to the quarterfinals.
According to Idman.biz, Tagi Nasibov (57 kg) faced Lithuania’s Matas Grigorianas, decisively winning the match in the first round. Nasibov will next face Erik Arstamyan (Armenia) in the quarterfinals.
In the 60 kg category, Mammadali Gasimzada claimed another victory, defeating Mexico's Armin Santos Mancilla with a 4:1 score (29:28, 30:27, 29:28, 29:28, 28:29). Gasimzada will compete against Sandro Spica (France) for a spot in the semifinals.
Aynur Mikayilova (57 kg) also secured her place in the quarterfinals after defeating Romania’s Gabriela Cioroba with a dominant performance in the second round. Mikayilova will next face Reka Varga Sara (Hungary).
With these wins, the number of Azerbaijani boxers in the quarterfinals has increased to seven. The day before, Bilalhabashi Nazarov (48 kg), Zidan Humbatov (51 kg), Omar Aslanli (54 kg), and Ali Abdullayev (63.5 kg) also advanced to the quarterfinals.
The championship is set to conclude on November 3.
