Azerbaijani boxer Aynur Mikayilova has made history.
Idman.biz reports that the 57 kg national team member achieved this milestone at the World Youth Championship in Budva, Montenegro.
In the quarterfinals, Mikayilova defeated Reka Varga Sara from Hungary with a dominant performance in the first round, advancing to the semifinals and securing at least a bronze medal for herself. This is a first in Azerbaijan’s boxing history, as no female boxer from Azerbaijan has previously reached this stage in a world championship. Any medal she wins will mark the first-ever for the women’s team.
The semifinal matches are scheduled for tomorrow.
