The Azerbaijani national team, comprised of young boxers, has achieved a historic success.
According to Idman.biz, the fighters have made a mark at the World Championship held in Budva, Montenegro.
Under the leadership of head coach Elbrus Rzayev, five boxers from our team have reached the semifinals of the tournament. Bilalhabashi Nazarov (48 kg), Zidan Humbatov (51 kg), Mahammadali Gasimzade (60 kg), Ali Abdullayev (63.5 kg) and Aynur Mikayilova (57 kg) all finished the quarterfinals with victories. This accomplishment secures five medals for Azerbaijan in the competition.
This result sets a new record in Azerbaijani boxing history, as the team has never won this many medals at a youth world championship before.
The previous record was set in 2004 when four Azerbaijani boxers reached the semifinals. At that championship held in Jeju, South Korea, the fighters earned four bronze medals.
Additionally, Aynur Mikayilova will be the first Azerbaijani female boxer to win a medal at the world championship, a feat that no athlete from Azerbaijan has achieved before.
