Azerbaijani chess player Eltaj Safarli won the Staufer-Open Tournament held in Schwebisch-Gmund, Germany.
Idman.biz reports that the 31-year-old grandmaster secured the 1st place ahead of time by defeating the host Timo Kuppers in the 8th round.
Safarli, who has 7.5 points in his asset, is 1.5 points ahead of his closest followers.
However, the last round is not important for Eltac.
The Grandmaster has won 7 victories in the competition and is tied only with Pa Inian from India.
