International chess festival "Baku Open 2024" ended - PHOTO

International chess festival "Baku Open 2024" organized in Baku has ended.

As per Idman.biz, the closing ceremony of the competition dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) was held.

A video showing an overview of the festival was shown at the closing ceremony of the tournament organized jointly by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Azerbaijan Chess Federation (ACF).

In his speech, ACF president Mahir Mammadov, expressed his gratitude to the organizers. He noted that this competition was different from others due to a number of features: "There are good opportunities for chess players of all ages to play both at home and abroad. As you know, this year is the Olympic year. Our athletes are preparing for Paris-2024. Good luck to them. I am very glad that the veterans participated in the tournament. I congratulate the winners and I hope to see you soon in the new competitions."

Then the awarding ceremony of the winners took place. The prizes were presented to the winners by the Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov, the head of the federation Mahir Mammadov and the 1st vice-president of the ACF Faig Hasanov.

In men's fight, 4 chess players scored 7 points. According to additional indicators, Sina Movahed (Iran) won the title of champion. Indians Abhimanyu Puranik took 2nd place, Mittal Aditya 3rd place. Vugar Asadli achieved the highest result among Azerbaijani intellectuals. He was 5th with 6.5 points.

Among women, Russian Polina Shuvalova won the title with 6.5 points. Kazakh chess players Bibisara Assaubayeva (6.5 points) and Meruert Kamalidenova (5.5 points) took the next places. Gulnar Mammadova, who has 5.5 points, finished the competition in the 4th place.

Chess players from Bulgaria, Georgia, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkiye, Ukraine, USA, Uzbekistan, as well as intellectuals competing in FIDE participated in the tournament dedicated to the 100th anniversary of FIDE.
