Indian Grandmaster Dommaraju Gukesh recently shared insights about his preparation for the upcoming world chess championship match against reigning champion Ding Liren. The highly anticipated match, scheduled to take place in Singapore from November 20 to December 14, will see Gukesh competing as the victor of the Candidates Tournament.
Reflecting on the pressure and significance of the event, Gukesh admitted, "I think everyone gets nervous at such moments. Regardless of what people say or the current balance of power, a match of this magnitude is entirely different."
Gukesh also discussed his conversations with legendary Indian Grandmaster Viswanathan Anand, who shared his own experiences. "Vishy told me that during his time, he would often feel panic as if things were not going as planned, and it seemed nothing would work out. However, over time, he managed to calm down, and everything eventually fell into place."
Acknowledging the weight of the competition, Gukesh emphasized, "This is the most important event in chess, and it should not be taken lightly. I feel it will be an interesting journey for me, and once I arrive in Singapore, things will become even more serious. I am eagerly awaiting the start of the match."
Gukesh, who recently led the Indian team to Olympic gold, is determined and optimistic as he embarks on this pivotal chapter in his chess career.
He added that he will go to Singapore to win.
"Why did I hide it, I want to win! I try as much as possible not to pay attention to the circumstances, what was said, and the current issues regarding my opponent... I must be ready to defeat the strongest example of Ding Liren. I believe in it and I am preparing very seriously. I hope that everything will be fine for me," Gukesh concluded.
