The Azerbaijan Championship in rapid and blitz chess for both men and women has successfully concluded at the Republican Chess Center.
According to Idman.biz, Eltaj Safarli emerged as the national champion in the men’s tournament, scoring a total of 14 points. Vugar Rasulov closely followed with 13.5 points, securing second place, while Mahammad Muradli finished third.
In the women’s competition, Gulnar Mammadova, a member of the Azerbaijan national team, claimed the gold medal with 12.5 points. Zeynab Mammadyarova also scored 12.5 points but took second place due to additional tiebreak criteria. Khanim Balajayeva, another national team member, rounded out the podium in third place with 12 points.
During the closing ceremony, medals and diplomas were awarded to the winners and prize-winners by Mahir Mammadov, the president of the Azerbaijan Chess Federation and vice-president of FIDE, along with Faig Hasanov, the vice-president of the Azerbaijan Chess Federation.
The total prize fund for the championship was 8,000 manats. The winners and prize winners have also earned the right to participate in the upcoming World Championship. The top three chess players from the national championships will represent Azerbaijan at the World Championship to be held in New York, USA.
