Mamedyarov's team remains leader in Global Chess League despite setback

The second round of the Global Chess League kicked off in London, with Azerbaijani grandmaster Shakhriyar Mamedyarov's team, Alaskan Knights, maintaining their lead despite a setback.

According to Idman.biz, the 6th round mirrored the final matchups of the first round, as teams faced the same opponents.

Mamedyarov's Alaskan Knights were narrowly defeated by Alpine Sg Pipers, with a score of 2.5:3.5. Mamedyarov himself secured a draw against Hungarian grandmaster Richard Rapport on the third board. Despite the loss, the Alaskan Knights continue to top the standings with 15 points.

Meanwhile, the team featuring fellow Azerbaijani grandmaster Teimour Rajabov, currently in third place, drew their match against Mumba Masters with a score of 3:3.

Rajabov’s club, Triveni Continental Kings, also saw a peaceful result in Peter Svidler’s match (Russia), bringing their total to 11 points.
