Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, the leader of the Azerbaijani national chess team, announced on social media that he has signed a contract to participate in the Azerbaijani Championship scheduled for 2025.
The 39-year-old grandmaster expressed his hope that all of the country's leading intellectuals would participate in the tournament: “An exciting competition awaits us. I would like to thank the Azerbaijan Chess Federation and its chairman, Mahir Mammadov, for their support of national chess. I hope that year by year, the support for the national championship will increase. At the beginning of this year, I promised to participate in the national championship, and I am eagerly looking forward to the tournament that will be held in 2025. I am very pleased to be playing with our young and leading chess players.”
The Azerbaijani Championship for both men and women will take place from January 31 to February 15, 2025.
