Azerbaijani grandmaster Rauf Mammadov has secured a spot in the World Chess Cup.
As reported by Idman.biz, the 36-year-old earned this qualification at the European Championship held in the Montenegrin city of Petrovac.
In the final round of the competition, Mammadov faced Momchil Petkov from Bulgaria and won. This victory brought his total score to 7.5 points, allowing him to finish in 14th place. This position earned him a place in the World Chess Cup.
Unfortunately, other Azerbaijani players did not make it into the top 20.
Mammadov’s compatriot, Mahammad Muradli, also finished with 7.5 points, but due to tiebreakers, he ended up in 22nd place and did not qualify for the World Chess Cup.
