Today marks the opening of the Baku Open - 2025 International Chess Festival, organized by the Azerbaijan Chess Federation with support from the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The opening ceremony will take place at the Exhibition Center of the Baku Crystal Hall at 14:30, Idman.biz reports.
The presidents of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) and the Turkish Chess Federation, along with FIDE official, two-time world champion, and winner of the World Chess Olympiad, Zhu Chen, have arrived in Baku for the event.
The festival has a total prize fund of $55,000, and more than 700 chess players from 16 countries will be participating. Additionally, a championship for veteran chess players will also take place during the festival.
The festival is also part of the Chess Tour Azerbaijan project.
