Azerbaijan's fencers have won 1 gold and 3 bronze medals at the Gymnasiade Sports Games held in Manama, Bahrain.
According to Idman.biz, the best result was achieved by young fencer Valentina Zeynalova, who claimed gold. After securing five wins in the group stage, Valentina advanced to the playoffs, where she defeated opponents from Egypt and Romania to reach the final. In the decisive match, she triumphed over Chinese fencer Mu Jinyu with a score of 15-9, earning the gold medal.
Leyla Ahmadova, finishing the group stage with four wins, advanced to the playoffs in the women’s sabre competition. She won against her Mexican opponent but fell just short of the final, losing to Mu Jinyu from China.
In the men’s épée event, Mirkhatai Mammadov and Emin Safarbayov each won a bronze medal. Both athletes successfully passed the group stage and entered the playoffs. Mirkhatai defeated opponents from Oman and China to reach the semifinals, securing a bronze after losing to a Ukrainian fencer in the final qualification match. Emin, having defeated a Saudi Arabian fencer in the playoffs, faced Li Ran from Chinese Taipei in the semifinals but was unable to advance further.
