Azerbaijani fencers fall short in Algeria

The Algerian Oran hosted a stage of the Sabre Fencing World Cup, where Azerbaijan’s national team faced disappointment.

Idman.biz reports that the Azerbaijani team, consisting of Palina Kaspiarovich, Sabina Karimova, and Zarifa Huseynova, struggled in the team competition. In a tight match for a spot in the 1/8 finals, they lost to Italy 44-45. Competing for 9th-16th places, they defeated the host team Algeria 45-19. However, in the 9th-10th place match, they fell to Spain 32-45. Due to Kaspiarovich’s injury, the team forfeited their final match against Bulgaria for 11th place.

In the individual events, Sabina Karimova and Zarifa Huseynova advanced past the group stage but were eliminated in the playoffs. Kaspiarovich reached the round of 16 but lost 7-15 to Hungarian Katinka Battany, who later secured bronze.
