Mahir Emreli: "Azerbaijan is a very tolerant country"

Azerbaijani professional football player Mahir Emreli gave an interview on Nuremberg’s official website.

As reported by Idman.biz, he remembered the story about his coming to football.

Mahir said that his mother Elnura Emreli played a big role in his choice of football: "I could see from her reaction how excited she was about the match. That triggered something in me as a little boy and that's how I got into football.

Recalling his first Champions League match with Qarabag at Stamford Bridge, the player shared: “The first Champions League match with Qarabag FK at Stamford Bridge in London remains etched in my memory. Although we faced tough odds, it was a historic moment for our team, one that still holds significance today.

When it comes to stadiums that have left a lasting impression on me due to their incredible atmospheres during international trips, three stand out: Dortmund's Signal Iduna Park, PAOK Salonika's Toumba Stadium, and AS Roma's Stadio Olimpico. Each of these venues offers a unique and electrifying experience that any football fan would appreciate.”

Speaking about his career path and the importance of inspiring younger players, he added: "When I chose my path, I also did it for my country. There aren't many players from Azerbaijan who have made the move to Germany, Croatia, or Poland yet. I want to be a role model for the youth in Azerbaijan, showing them that they should have the courage to take this step too."

Known for his open personality, he emphasized: "I am very communicative and enjoy getting to know new and different cultures."
"We are a very tolerant and Muslim country, but we strive to unite all religions and cultures. There are mosques, Jewish synagogues, and Christian churches. For example, in our country, people of Russian descent live together with people from Ukraine. We grow up with other cultures and learn to live in harmony with them. That's also why it has never been difficult for me to adapt to different cultures. Right now, there is a lot of hate in the world. I want to show people that things can be different," said the 27-year-old.

"For example, if there's a holiday here in Germany, I'll post about it as well. It's interesting for my fans in Azerbaijan to see how the culture is lived here. In Germany, I've come to understand more clearly what it means to be loyal to your club. Technical mistakes are forgiven if you give everything for your team on the pitch."

Mahir Emreli made his debut in the second round of the Bundesliga team. He made his debut in the team of Nuremberg in the last round.
