Olavio Juninho closes in on Zoubir’s European Cup Scoring Record

Brazilian striker Olavio Juninho is on the verge of breaking a significant record in Azerbaijani football history.

Playing for Qarabag, Juninho scored his 13th goal in European Cup competitions during the second round of the Europa League group stage, finding the net against Malmö, as reported by Idman.biz.

At 28 years old, Juninho has now tallied 13 goals across 23 European Cup matches—6 in the Champions League and 7 in the Europa League.

With this, he is just one goal away from tying Abdellah Zoubir’s record of 14 goals, which makes him the top scorer for Azerbaijani clubs in European competitions.

Zoubir, Qarabag’s French midfielder, will need to keep his form to protect his spot as the top scorer. Meanwhile, Juninho is likely to match or even surpass this record soon. The next opportunity for both players to add to their goal tallies will come on October 24, when Qarabag faces Ajax in Baku.

Brazilian forward Reynaldo currently holds third place on the list, with 11 European Cup goals for Qarabag, while Filip Ozobic sits fourth with 10 goals, scored while playing for Neftchi, Gabala, and Qarabag.
