"The club management has done everything possible. I believe everyone sees that. The last head coach was not successful. Roman Hryhorchuk is a sufficiently professional coach."
According to Idman.biz, this statement was made by Emin Amrullayev, a member of the Supervisory Board of Neftchi, after a press conference marking the opening of the new season for the Azerbaijan Basketball Federation.
He noted, “Currently, analyses are being conducted regarding a new coach. Therefore, it would not be appropriate for me to comment further. Certain candidates have been proposed to the management. You will know the name of the new coach in the near future. Unfortunately, such situations occur in football. Neftchi is neither in first nor last place. We started the season with great expectations. The football community did not see this decision as wrong. Unfortunately, it turned out this way. Neftchi management had to make changes to improve the situation, which is why we had to go through these changes.”
Amrullayev explained the management’s objective: “The management had to make a decision. We had to take action, and we did. The separation with the coach was done in a normal, professional manner. We would have preferred it not to be this way. We are trying to make the best decision regarding the recruitment of a new head coach. However, Neftchi has done considerable work in recent months, both in terms of its base and other areas. I am confident that these efforts will yield results. Of course, Neftchi has a chance to save the season and qualify for the European cups. Neftchi has always played to win, and if it is not in first place, that is, in a certain sense, a failure. Our goal is to make Neftchi the number one club in Azerbaijan. This is simply a process; sometimes it works out, and sometimes it does not. We all see what is happening. We need to believe and support each other. Let’s be a little more patient. We are trying to make the best decision for ‘Neftchi.’”
The board member also commented on the frequent coaching changes within the team: “Preparation for the last season started late. There was a coaching selection. We had a long-term project with Adrian Mutu and were determined to work with him. However, due to family reasons, he left, and we did not end up in a good situation. There were aspects of his work that we were satisfied with, and we were ready to give him time. However, such an event occurred in his life. We were faced with a choice. At the end of the year, the results were not satisfactory. A result from one game was not favorable for us. Therefore, we chose a coach who is familiar and suitable for Azerbaijan. If that does not work out, we will continue the process. We understand the fans. We want everyone to be patient. We are as disappointed as they are. Nobody, including the management, is satisfied with where Neftchi is positioned. Everyone understands their responsibilities and is doing everything possible to choose the appropriate and right coach.”
Neftchi is currently in 9th place in the Premier League standings.
