Raul Ojassaar: “Azerbaijan matches are the most important”

Estonian journalist Raul Ojassaar, the editor-in-chief of Soccernet.ee and the magazine Jalka, shared his thoughts exclusively with Idman.biz ahead of the Estonia vs. Azerbaijan match, which will take place today in Tallinn:

“The two games against Azerbaijan, especially the home game, are definitely the two most important matches for Estonia in this season's Nations League. Sweden and Slovakia are considered a level above our quality, but Azerbaijan is considered more or less an equal opponent. Most likely, the 3rd and 4th place in this group are decided in these two matches in Tallinn and in Gabala.

Losing to Azerbaijan 0-2 at home last October was a massive disappointment for us and we definitely need to be better this time. We have since changed our head coach and and the new coach Jürgen Henn is much more popular among the fans than Thomas Häberli was, playing a more open and attacking style. In June, we beat Faroe Islands 4-1 at home and won the Baltic Cup after drawing with Lithuania, so there is a lot more optimism and hope than there was during the Häberli times.

I would say that this match is a must-win for Estonia. Azerbaijan might have a famous coach and a few players that play the Europa League with Qarabag, but that is nothing that scares or should scare Estonia. We are definitely in a better place than we were a year ago and people will come to the stadium today expecting three points.”
