According to Idman.biz, the experienced goalkeeper made his 779th appearance for CSKA Moscow, surpassing Messi, who played 778 games for Barcelona. Akinfeev achieved this milestone during a 1-0 victory against Dynamo Makhachkala.
The all-time record for club appearances belongs to Welsh midfielder Ryan Giggs, who played 963 matches for Manchester United.
Meanwhile, the Azerbaijani record is held by Maksim Medvedev, who has made 552 appearances for Qarabag.
