Toni Kroos: "Becoming a coach? No, I'm not going to be a coach."

Toni Kroos has made it clear that pursuing a managerial role is not in his future plans.

In a recent interview with The Athletic, the experienced midfielder discussed his decision to retire and addressed speculation about becoming a head coach, as reported by Idman.biz.

Kroos revealed that the decision to retire was a joint one made with his wife, stating, "I made it together with my wife." He emphasized the importance of family in his decision-making process, sharing, "It’s not that one day I said, ‘I’m going to do this.’ It was a process. We were talking about it for months."

The couple decided to inform their children first, ensuring they wouldn’t hear about it through media or peers at school. Kroos explained, “When it was made, we first told the children so that they wouldn’t read about it in the media or someone could tell them at school."

Reflecting on his decision, he mentioned that he hesitated for three or four months before finally committing. Kroos also shared how he informed his coach, Carlo Ancelotti, about his retirement, noting the strong relationship they have built since his arrival at the club in 2014. He quickly informed Real Madrid president Florentino Perez and other close colleagues, acknowledging their reactions: “Nobody was happy. Some couldn’t believe it because they said it wasn’t the right time because of the level I was playing at.”

When asked about the possibility of coaching, Kroos firmly stated, “I’m not going to be a coach. Maybe as a sporting director, you’re a bit freer, you work more with your mobile phone, etc., but it’s impossible to be a coach. I’m a coach, but in another way, of many children.”

Kroos’s insights highlight his commitment to family and his desire to step away from the intense demands of coaching while still contributing to the sport in a different capacity.
