"Of course, you can't look down on Qarabag."
This statement comes from Rydell Poepon, a former player of both Ajax and Qarabag, as he shares his insights ahead of the UEFA Europa League match between the two clubs.
In an interview, the 37-year-old retired striker discussed his expectations for the game: “I’ve seen their recent match against Bayer. Bayer was favored in those games. Although Qarabag opened the scoring against Malmö, they ultimately lost. All of this says a lot. They likely get more motivated when facing bigger teams. They will approach Ajax as a major team. My expectation for the game is a 2-0 victory for Ajax."
Despite ending his professional career, Poepon still plays football: “I play for a team made up of amateurs called DVS. However, I am also working in the healthcare sector, providing psychological support and care for the disabled and children. That’s my current role and job.”
Poepon played for Qarabag during the 2015/16 season and spent two years at Ajax, although he didn’t get much playing time in the first team between 2004 and 2006.
