The 12th round of the Misli Premier League was marked by another coach’s departure.
Idman.biz reports that Shahin Diniyev’s exit from Sabail comes with notable details that have attracted attention.
Underdog’s Second ‘Victim’
Championship underdog Kapaz clinched their second victory of the season, again resulting in an opposing coach’s resignation. Following Roman Hryhorchuk’s exit in round nine, Diniyev is now leaving Sabail. Kapaz previously celebrated a 4-3 win, and now a 1-0 victory. The question remains: who might be the next ‘victim’ of Ganja’s resilient team? Kapaz will face Sabah, Araz-Nakhchivan, and Shamakhi in the upcoming three rounds. Of these, only Nakhchivan’s team appears free from resignation pressure, while the other two could face the same fate under the outsider’s blows.
Resignation Triangle
The Misli Premier League has seen four resignations this season, with Kapaz affecting two clubs. Initially, Kapaz parted ways with Adil Shukurov, bringing in Azer Bagirov, while Neftchi replaced Hryhorchuk with Samir Abasov, who later left his position at Sumgayit. Vagif Javadov took over that role. Interestingly, all resignations have occurred within the league’s bottom three teams. Kapaz changed coaches when they were 10th, Neftchi at 9th, and Sumgayit at 8th. Now, Sabail followed suit in 9th position, forming a “resignation triangle” among the bottom clubs.
Unlucky 13th Game
In their 13th match of the season, Sabail bid farewell to Diniyev. The Baku club played 12 games in the Premier League and one in the Cup, with this unlucky number marking Diniyev’s last. This game was also remembered as their 9th defeat of the season. The team has 3 wins (two in the championship and one in the cup), one draw, and has scored 21 goals while conceding 22. However, this balance was only possible due to their 6-0 Cup victory over second-division Dinamo.
676-Day Tenure
Diniyev’s appointment to Sabail occurred on December 28, 2022, succeeding Mahmud Gurbanov. He led the second half of the 2022/23 season and started the 2023/24 season from the beginning, with one-third of the current championship enough to mark his exit. Diniyev remained at Sabail for 676 days.
Only 21 Wins
Under Diniyev’s leadership, the team played 73 matches, winning 21, drawing 14, and losing 38, scoring 106 goals and conceding 123. In the Premier League, Sabail played 66 matches, earning 68 points from 18 wins and 14 draws, with 34 losses. Their league goal difference stands at 84-114. In seven Cup matches, the team achieved three wins and faced four losses, scoring 22 goals and conceding 9.
Sabail will play their first match without Diniyev on November 9, hosting Turan Tovuz in Baku.
