Sumgayit FC provided this response to Idman.biz's inquiry regarding the ongoing conflict with sports journalists Anar Shabanoglu and Ikhtiyar Asgarov.
The club clarified: "The journalists, who were later reported to the Prosecutor General’s Office, initially approached Sumgayit FC with a proposal for cooperation, which was declined as it did not align with our strategy. Subsequently, these journalists began publishing false and defamatory information about club president Riad Rafiyev, aiming to harm his reputation and that of Sumgayit FC’s professional activities. Such defamatory information has been submitted to law enforcement, and the case is now under their control. We trust the authorities will evaluate the situation fairly and justly.”
Rafiyev had requested the retraction of articles published about him on Sports.az and Matc.az.
