Qarabag has finally secured its first win in the Europa League group stage. Their 2-1 away victory over Bodo/Glimt could play a crucial role in the race for a playoff spot. More importantly, the team from Agdam will now approach future European matches with renewed psychological confidence.
According to Idman.biz, the Azerbaijani champions managed to deliver the needed result in Norway. While certain aspects of their play still need improvement, particularly in defense, the visitors were able to capitalize on their opportunities and turn them into goals.
This was precisely what the team had been lacking in previous games. Moreover, each goal—especially Toral Bayramov’s strike, a contender for one of the tournament’s best—was executed beautifully.
Of course, matches in northern countries at the end of autumn have their unique challenges. But Qarabag faced similar weather conditions last year in their away match against Molde. In such games, both European experience and the individual skill of players become even more critical. While Bodo/Glimt surpasses Qarabag in experience, coach Gurban Gurbanov praised the development of Norwegian club football during the post-match press conference.
The Agdam side also felt the support of their fans in Norway. Supporters traveling all the way from Boston had a profound impact on both the players and the coaching staff.
This victory came at the perfect time, aligning with Azerbaijan’s special Victory Day, creating a unique emotional backdrop for a match where Qarabag achieved its aim.
With these three points, Qarabag has significantly climbed the standings. They are now just one point away from the 24th position, intensifying the battle for a playoff spot.
