As part of the 29th session of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) being held in Baku, Azerbaijan, the well-known football club Qarabag has taken the initiative to create a joint alliance of football clubs for climate change.
Asif Asgarov, a member of the Board of Directors of Qarabag FC, shared details of this initiative in an interview with AZERTAC: "As you know, Qarabag has proposed the formation of a collective alliance of football clubs to fight climate change during COP29. This initiative is supported by both COP29 and the UNFCCC’s Department of Sport and Climate Change."
He went on to say that the initiative is being organized in collaboration with the European Clubs Association (ECA): "European clubs of high repute have responded positively to our invitation. We have particularly prioritized clubs that have done significant work on climate change in Europe. Around 10-12 representatives will be visiting our capital to engage in discussions. We hope to sign the declaration at the end of the event. The next goal will be to expand the number of participating clubs and focus on the commitments made."
The event where football clubs will sign the declaration on climate change is scheduled to take place on November 16 at 14:00 in the Nasimi hall of the Blue Zone.
