FIFA President Gianni Infantino shared his experience at COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan, on his Instagram account, describing the invitation as a significant honor.
"It was an honor to be invited by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to COP29 in beautiful Baku, where world leaders gathered to address the critical global issue of climate change and explore ways to tackle it while ensuring sustainable growth," Infantino wrote.
He went on to explain that during the event, held inside a football stadium, he discussed the future of both the planet and football with President Aliyev and numerous global leaders, further highlighting football's power to unite people.
"As an international organization, FIFA takes its responsibility to protect the environment seriously. We have developed and implemented programs that support climate action through investments in internationally certified projects," Infantino continued.
He concluded by emphasizing the shared objective of all participants: ensuring a better future for future generations. "FIFA will continue playing its part in addressing the global challenge of climate change," he added.
