The race for the "Golden Boot," awarded to the most prolific goal scorer in European national leagues, has seen a change in leadership.
Viktor Gyökeres, the Swedish star of Sporting, has taken the top spot, Idman.biz reports.
The 26-year-old forward scored a poker (four goals) in Sporting's 5-0 away win against Boavista in the Portuguese league. With this achievement, Gyökeres' goal tally reached 38, raising his points to 57.
He surpassed Mohamed Salah of Liverpool, who has scored 28 goals in the English Premier League, earning 56 points.
Sporting will play three more games until the end of the season, while Liverpool has four matches remaining. Third-place Robert Lewandowski, with 25 goals for Barcelona, has 50 points.
In the Golden Boot race, the number of goals scored by players is multiplied by a coefficient based on the level of the league. The coefficient is 2 for both Salah and Lewandowski's leagues, while Gyökeres' league has a coefficient of 1.5.
