Shahin Diniyev: "It was bound to happen with two or five rounds left"

"Qarabag fully deserves the championship."

Former Azerbaijan national team head coach, Shahin Diniyev, shared his thoughts with Idman.biz after Qarabag clinched the 2024/25 Misli Premier League title.

The experienced coach said the outcome was expected:

"Qarabag’s championship is no coincidence. Whether it happened with two rounds or five rounds left, it was inevitable. For years now, the Aghdam-based team has dominated the league. Financially, squad-wise, and in terms of infrastructure, they absolutely deserved this title."

Diniyev also pointed out that there is still excitement left in the final four rounds of the season:

"Three major intrigues remain. First, the relegation battle between Sabail and Kapaz. Mathematically, Sabail still has a chance. They need to win at least three of their remaining four matches, while Kapaz must lose all four. In short, the fight isn’t over yet. Secondly, if Sabah wins the national cup, finishing fourth in the league will no longer guarantee a spot in European competitions. Lastly, the battle for third place between Araz-Nakhchivan and Turan Tovuz will also be intense."

For context, Qarabag secured the championship in Round 32, sealing the title with four matches to spare. The Aghdam side has now won the Azerbaijani Premier League for the fourth consecutive time and claimed their 12th championship in club history—securing 11 gold medals over the past 12 seasons.
