Neftchi has reached a major milestone by netting its 1,600th goal in Azerbaijani league history.
The landmark goal was scored by Andriy Shtogrin during Matchday 32 of the Misli Premier League, Idman.biz reports.
His late strike in the away match against Sumgayit secured a 2–2 draw, preventing defeat for the Baku-based club.
The historic goal came in Neftchi’s 957th league match since the inception of the national championship in 1992, giving the club an average of 1.67 goals per game. Of the 1,600 goals, 923 were scored at home, 657 away, and 20 on neutral grounds.
Neftchi becomes only the second team in Azerbaijani league history to surpass the 1,600-goal mark, following Qarabag, which currently has 1,606 goals.
Interestingly, Neftchi’s very first league goal also came against a Sumgayit-based team—Khazar—on May 8, 1992. That historic strike was scored by Yunis Huseynov.
