Aghatahir Azimov explained the reason why Azerbaijan remained in the group: "There are no players left in the team"

"Brazilian players have always played in the Azerbaijan national futsal team. Now the situation is different."

Aghatahir Azimov, selector-coach for futsal national teams of Azerbaijan, told Idman.biz.

The former captain of the team commented on the situation of the national team remaining in the group at the elite-round stage of the WC-2024. He said that changes in the rules played a role in the failure of Vitaliy Borisov's students to reach the final: "The international futsal player must live in that country for 5 years to change his citizenship, just like in a number of sports. For this reason, the team performed with two internationals. Currently, a team of young futsal players is playing. But today there are a number of difficulties in Azerbaijani futsal. Almost all of our players have turned to mini-football. There are no more players left in the national team."

According to him, the former head coach Jose Alessio da Silva recruited 7-8 Brazilians to the team and 3-4 local players joined them: "That's why he was comfortable. But Vitaliy Borisov is in trouble. At the age of 19-20, futsal players cannot play like our experienced internationals. Futsal should be given some time to train the youngsters and bring them to a normal level. Basically, there should be sponsors so that futsal players don't run away. We breed, but they leave because of finances."
It should be noted that our team, which is in Group A, was the last with 4 points. In our group, Kazakhstan advanced to the final stage, and the second-placed Netherlands advanced to the playoffs.
