Aghatahir Azimov blames foreigns: “A Generation Lost”

"There's not much to say about the national team’s performance," former Azerbaijani futsal player Aghatahir Azimov shared with Idman.biz, reflecting on the team's recent 0-7 defeat to Bosnia and Herzegovina in a friendly match.

Azimov recalled that the national team had previously seen success due to Brazilian players on the roster. "When José Alesio da Silva was head coach, we also had talented local futsal players. However, as foreign players took their spots, it marked the end of a generation," he noted. "That’s why we now lack quality futsal players. I don’t blame Vitaliy Borisov for these losses. Many players have shifted to mini-football where the financial benefits are better, while our futsal league remains weak. Without financial sponsorship, this situation won’t improve."

Despite these challenges, Azimov is optimistic about the future: "Young futsal talents are coming up in the lower age groups. Many in the main team are U19 members. If we want a bright future, we need to support them."

The national futsal team faces Bosnia and Herzegovina again tonight, with the match set for 22:00.
