Hidayat Heydarov: "I procrastinate by 5 minutes..." - INTERVIEW - VIDEO

Azerbaijan national judoka Hidayat Heydarov (73 kg) gave an interview to the press service of the federation.

As per Idman.biz, the world champion spoke about his first introduction to judo, difficulties, and goals.

- How do you remember your first training?

- Our training started early in the morning - at 8 o'clock. The alarm rang, but I did not wake up. My mother used to pick me up. "Wake up, wake up, it's time for training," he said. Even if I procrastinate for 5 minutes, I would eventually wake up. My father signed me up in judo. First, I went to teacher Tarlan. There I got acquainted with the secrets of this sport and I liked it very much.

- What can you say about your childhood?

- I was naughty. I didn't stay at home. I fell down and played in the yard. I spent my energy there even before going to judo. I really liked this sport.

- You always cried when you lost. How true is that?

- Yes, I always cried when I lost. I shed a lot of tears.

- What are your similarities with Olympic champion Elnur Mammadli?

- Elnur Mammadli and I are very similar to each other. By nature, thorough. It seems that all the events that happen to us are the same for both of us. Hopefully, we will be the same in the end.

- How are your preparations for Paris-2024 going?

- Our exercises are very intensive. The Olympics is a tough competition. You need to be fully prepared for it, both psychologically and physically.
