Azerbaijan national judoka Ushangi Kokauri (+100 kg) gave an interview to the federation’s press service.
He spoke about judo, his arrival in Azerbaijan, and his goals, per Idman.biz.
- How did start judo?
- I used to be interested in boxing. I have been boxing for about 6 years. But I saw that all my peers were practicing judo. I switched to judo because it was boring to go to boxing alone. This was more interesting to me.
- How did it happen that you liked it and brought it to Azerbaijan?
- Rashad Mammadov liked my training. He invited me to Azerbaijan. I was happy and accepted the offer.
- What can you say about your personality?
- Usually, they say that big people are gentle. Maybe that's why I'm mild-mannered. Of course, they try to annoy me so that I can wrestle more effectively. This is sometimes well received. I win competitions and that's how my style is formed.
- How is your relationship with Azerbaijani cuisine?
- I love khash, cokelek. My friend Abdulhaqq Rasullu is from Shamakhi. Sometimes he brings me cokelek. I love Azerbaijani cuisine and I like the similarity of our culture.
- What is the attitude towards you in Azerbaijan?
- As a Georgian, it is easy to make friends with Azerbaijanis. They are very friendly people. The Federation always supports me. The coaches are working hard with me and that makes me very happy. It gives me extra motivation to reach my goal.
- Do you believe that you will perform successfully at the Olympic Games?
- I participated in the Olympics twice. This may be my last Olympic Games. I really want to get a successful result. I want to make myself, the fans, and Azerbaijan happy.
