Dushanbe 2024: Azerbaijani judoka secures bronze

Dushanbe World Championships Juniors Individuals 2024 continues.

Idman.biz reports that on the third day of the competition, 3 athletes from Azerbaijan started fighting.

Among them, Suleyman Shukurov finished his performance with a bronze medal. This was the first prize of the Azerbaijan national team in the World Championship.

Suleyman Shukurov kicked off his performance in the second stage and secured a victory against Mihajlo Simin from Serbia. He faced Joshua De Lange (Netherlands) and was upset by the defeat. The Azerbaijani judoka wrestled with Muhammad Yusufzada from Tajikistan for the bronze medal. The match ended with a confident victory of Shukurov. He thus rose to the third level of the victory podium.

90 kg
Aslan Kotsoev started strong, winning his first match against Amir Abbas Choopan from Iran, followed by a victory over Shakhzodxuja Sharipov (Uzbekistan) and Marcos Martinez Coin (Spain) and reached the quarterfinals. He lost to Komei Kawabata (Japan) in the quarterfinals and to Henry Owusu (Italy) in the consolation match.

Tuncay Shamil began his fight in the second stage but unfortunately lost to Egor Malkin (IJF).

After two days of the World Championship, there are no medals in the account of the Azerbaijani national team. Nizami Imranov (60 kg) and Aydan Valiyeva (52 kg) lost in matches for bronze.
