Judo rules may change from next year. The International Judo Federation (IJF) is considering a two-year Olympic selection period for Los Angeles to test certain innovations.

However, taking into account the pandemic factor, the last cycle lasted three years instead of four. Daniel Laskau, head of the IJF Judges' Commission, also noted this situation: "We are open to the proposals of national federations. We can say that we have lost a cycle where it is possible to introduce innovations in the rules. But now we have the opportunity to adapt the changes in the rules. We will do it next year so that the rules will take their final form by 2026."
