In the city of Nakhchivan - at the Olympic Sports Complex named after Ilham Aliyev, the autonomous republic championship in judo between U-15 and U-18 teenagers dedicated to the Day of Restoration of Independence was held.
More than 70 athletes from cities and regions participated in the competition jointly organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, Azerbaijan Judo Federation (ACF) and Nakhchivan Wrestling Federation, Idman.biz reports.
At the opening ceremony of the competition, the memory of national leader Heydar Aliyev, as well as our martyrs who died for the freedom and sovereignty of our country, was commemorated with a minute's silence. The National Anthem was played.
Acting Minister of Youth and Sports, Deputy Minister Majid Seyidov, who spoke at the event, spoke about the fruits of the state sports policy implemented under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, and said that judo, which has been developing with high dynamics in recent times, is one of the popular sports in the autonomous republic. It was noted that the achievements of Nakhchivan judokas in national and international competitions in the last year are a logical result of the steps taken in this field.
ACF Deputy General Secretary Kamran Talibov expressed his belief that the championship of the autonomous republic will be successful in terms of general goals and objectives, as one of the competitions between 15 and 18-year-old judokas held in the regions in September and October.
After the opening ceremony, the competition started. Winners of two age categories and different weight classes were determined among female and male athletes.
Diplomas, medals and gifts were presented to the winners of the first three places at the awarding ceremony attended by Deputy Minister Majid Seyidov.
