In an interview with Report, Azerbaijani judoka Huseyn Allahyarov, who won a gold medal at the European U23 Judo Championship held in Pila, Poland, shared his thoughts on his achievement and future goals, Idman.biz reports.
Competing in the 60 kg weight category, Allahyarov expressed his joy at securing first place: "My goal was only to win the gold medal. I went to the tournament with that thought in mind, and I wasn’t even thinking about silver."
He also spoke about his short-term goals: "Now, I want to compete in the 'Grand Slam' tournaments and aim to be among the medalists there. Like every judoka, I have set my sights on winning European, World, and Olympic championships."
Azerbaijan's athletes achieved two gold, one silver, and two bronze medals at the U23 European Championship. Alongside Allahyarov, Fidan Alizada (57 kg) also became a champion. Aydan Valiyeva (52 kg) earned silver, while Rufat Shovlatov (73 kg) and Omar Rajabli (81 kg) won bronze medals.
