"As always, not all athletes in the team can show their potential at the same time."
Idman.biz reports that this was said by Richard Trautman, head coach of the Azerbaijani national team consisting of male judo athletes.
He said that, as always, not all athletes in the team were able to show their potential at the same time: "I was a little disappointed on the first day of the competition. But Ahmed Yusifov won his first medal at this level - bronze, which is a positive development. Unfortunately, two more of our athletes with gold medal potential, especially Ruslan Pashayev in the -66 kg weight category, made mistakes. However, he had previously defeated his rivals in that weight category. But judo is such a sport - the results cannot be predicted in advance. I was pleased on the second day of the competition. In fact, our Olympic and world champion Hidayat Heydarov was supposed to go on the tatami, but at the last moment he fell ill and withdrew from the competition. We also brought Rashid Mammadaliyev, who was in the mixed team, and he won the bronze medal. It was a very impressive performance, especially since he had just returned from an injury. On the third day of the competition, I was not satisfied with the decision made in the semi-final fight between Murad Fatiyev and Italian Christian Parlati. The same thing happened in the -81 kg weight category between Zelim Tchkayev and Tato Grigalashvili. also happened at the meeting. Even if I do not agree with the decisions, we must accept them".
Head coach Hidayat Heydarov said that he expected her to participate in the world championship: "This is the plan. First of all, we must fully recover, and then we must start training responsibly".
The specialist said that the situation in women's judo has not changed radically yet: "However, we have already set serious goals in this direction. We simply do not intend to accept the situation as it is. We have brought two high-level coaches, Amina Abdellatif from France and Sasha Herkenrath from Germany, to our women's team. The main goal is to change the atmosphere in the team. It is very important for a female athlete to develop self-confidence for victory. In terms of potential, women's judo is still limited, because there are few women who will train seriously at a high level and can say "I will become an Olympic champion". Our federation leadership is determined to invest seriously in women's judo. However, this cannot be solved simply by the training process. Women's involvement in professional sports should be supported more in society. And this is possible only with great success. Creating a role model is very important. For example, Diyora Keldiyorova from Uzbekistan is actually a very good example. First of all, we want more international experience for our girls. The new coaches got to know the athletes and their characteristics at the first stage. Now we are preparing individual development plans. If one or two of our female athletes reach the elite level, a domino effect can occur. We are already observing this in men. Thanks to the successes achieved, more boys now want to do judo."
